SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR / YOUTH ACTIVITY COACH

Gentle Art Studio + Gentle Art Kidz is hiring Summer Camp Counselors and Youth Activity Coaches for our structured, high-energy, child-centered summer camp program in Astoria, Queens.

This is NOT passive supervision-type work.

We are looking for team members who genuinely enjoy being engaged, interactive, active, encouraging, and present with children throughout the day.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

• Leading and assisting group games and activities
• Supervising children during camp activities and transitions
• Helping maintain a safe, structured, and positive environment
• Encouraging teamwork, participation, and respectful behavior
• Assisting with outdoor activities, sports, and movement games
• Supporting children socially and emotionally throughout the day
• Helping with setup, cleanup, and organization of activities
• Communicating professionally with team members and leadership
• Being fully engaged and interactive with children throughout the day

IDEAL BACKGROUNDS INCLUDE:

• Summer camp experience
• Coaching experience
• Teaching or education experience
• Martial arts
• Fitness or sports coaching
• Dance, tumbling, or cheerleading
• Theater or performance arts
• Psychology or child development studies
• Afterschool programs
• Recreation leadership

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must enjoy working with children
• Must be dependable and punctual
• Must have strong communication skills
• Must be coachable and open to feedback
• Must be comfortable participating in physical activities throughout the day
• Must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors
• Must have access to a smartphone for communication
• Must work well in a collaborative team environment
• CPR/First Aid certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain)

SCHEDULE:

• Summer seasonal position
• Monday–Friday
• Typically 30–40 hours per week
• Schedule varies by role and camp needs

COMPENSATION:

• $20–$30/hour depending on experience, qualifications, and role
